My Birthday Cake and a Happy 4th

Yes, I made my own birthday cake, and some say that's wrong, but I wouldn't have it any other way.lol! I wanted to try something that I knew would be hard because if it didn't turn out, then so what...it's not like it's for a paying customer. So I decided to make an Alabma Football Helmet, and yes it was hard. I have never carved so much on the cake but it was loads of fun! The facemask was probably the hardest. It's the only thing that's not completly edible. I made it out of wire an then covered it in fondant. If your not familiar with fondant,it's a clay -like type of icing that you can roll out like dough. The options with fondant are endless, but I'm not crazy about the taste, so that's the only part i made fondant (and it's expensive!:( ) The facemask didn't turn out quite like I wanted but I was tired, and it's just my cake...right?
